Movie Review: Your Name

Ref: Your Name

Just briefly, this animated film was definitely a big rollercoaster ride for me.  I enjoyed it a lot and found it to be very beautiful story wise.  It has the power to break your heart into tiny little pieces and also glue them all together again, that’s how wonderful this film was.

I loved how fantastic it was; you’re really living in a dream and this is what has been projected out of your brain.  How odd and how strange a story and yet how wonderful and amazing a story it is.

SPOILER ALERT
I loved the two conjoining stories, it added more mystery and more WOW to the film.  She’s dreamed of going to Tokyo one day and BAM, she’s in Tokyo.  I love the mindfuck where they play with the different times, I felt like they could’ve done that but with a more spaced out timeframe but then again they wouldn’t be able to come to a conclusion with that, so I guess how it plays out makes more sense.

I loved it, I loved everything about it, the magical powers of being able to switch bodies was interesting and entertaining for the most part; very very funny for sure.  How their stories collide, that’s definitely the game changer there.  They are two different people with two different personalities and lives and really everything, but they switch bodies and they find out more about each other and feel more emotionally connected through this.  They’re able to bypass not seeing each other in real life and having this intimate relationship through this sort of magical experience that they both go through.

I can’t stop going on about how amazing the film is, the plot was amazing and even the animation was beautiful.  I loved how they were able to take 2-d animation and warp it in a way that replicates 3-d motion (any of the circular track shots), it was very very lovely to watch.

I won’t go into depth with this one but I will say that this movie is to die for, I just love it that much.

The symbolism, the amount of cultural context in it, everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) in this film was lovely.
