Movie Review: NightCrawler [It's on Netflix]

Hey,

Okay so it wasn’t the movie that I expected; I really thought it was the movie about the X-men Nightcrawler, okay? Okay. Besides this point, I have to say that this movie really fucked me up. My original motive: watch the movie for Jake Gyllenhaal, my final motive: find out what the fuck is up with the main character. Jake did a phenomenal job with this character, I’m seriously impressed with how well he kept up with the eerie, creepy, upsetting and insane personality of this guy really. Let’s go beyond this though, spoiler alert.

The film really focuses on this idea of a materialistic world. He goes to extreme lengths to get money and many times at the expense of the lives of other people. Cheerfully and merrily he continues on his life as if nothing had ever happened; his partner hadn’t just been killed, he did not just witness so many damn murders that it’s impossible to not have nightmares for, and he also did not just plan a murder for money, and you know what let’s do all the calculations and on a scale of one to Lou, how fucking insane are you? I’m thinking that the movie suggests this true nature of humanity.

Let’s look at it this way, we are all put on this earth and placed into these boxes. We have to go to school, to get an education, to make money, to go to work, to make money, to have a family who would then grow up and be forced into this cycle of making money (whether you believe all of this or not, our entire motive at the end of the day is making money whether it be for ourselves or for other people). And let’s continue this thought, shall we, in reference to the movie, he is literally risking his life and watching the loss of other people’s lives, putting his life and his partner’s life at stake all for the ultimate prize of money. He even threatens Nina’s job, forces her to a restaurant with him and then forces her to have sex with him, all at the expense of her company losing money. He literally fucks up the other guy’s car which resulted in his accident = his death all for the sake of the flourishment of his company.

My mind is literally blowing up at how fucked up this movie is and yet it was intriguing to watch. 10/10, best fucked up movie ever! I enjoyed it alot and think it has a good statement on us as a society, that we are so ever constantly chasing the money and the fortune and the lives around us don’t even seem to matter anymore because it’s just all about this self, this individual self, this ME.
